Someone that pokes at me
asked after blog 47 to then do an overview, a review if you will, of specific
schools. I understand that this is interesting, and that there is value in the
specific. That being said, while I want to do this, and may end of doing it, it
is a fruitless venture. No matter how right I am in my assessment I will still
be wrong, because much more than what a school is, is how one reacts to it. For
example, RISD is world renowned for their design programs and exceptional
reputation. As a fine artist, some may feel restricted by the clean framework
of the program, I would have. Or I would have put all of my energy into what
they wanted me to be instead of finding what I wanted to be. That being said,
some artists are spastic, and will thrive within that specific framework
because they need it until they have figured out how to build one
independently. I think finding a school is just one more example of how artists
have to trust their gut, and also find ways to authentically educate the gut,
because some of our guts go for the bad shit.
Also, reading this today is
inspiring. (!)
And is giving me a lot more
to read. This article got to me this weekend too.
More
